My Internship

I’m doing my intership with Fanshawe College helping plan the 1st Annual Research and Innovation day. I received my internship in Thursday and I have been attending meetings and doing projects here and there since then. I should have started writing my journals a while ago but it’s time to catch up and I will do an update on what I have been working on so far.

I aquired my internship in November when the postings went up. I applied for the position because I’m interested in event planning and I thought that it would be a great opportunity. I talked with Otte Rosenkrants, and Lynne Blunt and they told me what this event was about, and offered me the postion. I was very happy to get my internship so early!

The first meeting I went to was on November 16th from 10:00 am - 11:00 am, where I got to meet a lot of key people in this project. For this meeting I got to see all the work that would need to be completed and talked about some of the things I would help out with.

The next meeting that I went to was on December 8th from 10:30 am - 11:30 am. For this meeting I was asked to bring in a mock up of a brochure I was making. At the meeting I got to speak with Courtney Ecker in marketing and she told me she would be setting me up with someone in the Marketing department to finalize the brochure.

Total Hours before 2nd term: 2 Hours

During the 1st week of school I was in the office for about 2 hours on Thursday January 5th, where I got myself familiar with the office and laid out the things I needed to start working on. I then went home and worked on the brochure for another hour or so. I was also asked to contact Erica who is an event coordinator at Fanshawe, and I was supposed to set up a walkthrough with her to see where food, prizes, presentations would go.

Total Hours 1st Week: 3 Hours

On Tuesday January 10th which was the 2nd week of my internship, I met with Otte, Courtney, and Devin in Marketing at 10:00am, to go over what needed to be included in the posters, and the brochure. We then went over how I would be helping formulate the communications plan, and help out with social media efforts.

Thursday January 12th I was working in the lab trying to add information to the brochure in InDesign. We were also having troubles with signing in to my computer so we had to play around with that for a little bit. On Friday January 13th I was working on the logo that I was asked to creat in Illustrator. It was a little bit tricky for me because I’m not as familiar with Illustrator as I am with InDesign but it’s mostly the same sort of functions. Otte and I went over the learning contract as well. I also finally got a hold of Erica to book our walkthrough so we decided to do it on Monday January 16th.

Total Hours 2nd Week: 10 Hours

My 3rd week was supposed to start off with my meeting with Erica on the Monday, however she had to cancel because she was ill. On Tuesday January 17th we had another steering committee meeting where I got to talk a little bit about what I’ve been working on. Thursday of this week (Which is today, January 19th) I was in at 9:00 am, and started working on my blog a bit (which I deleted as I was just about done and had to re-write this all… grrr). I then had a meeting with Trevor in marketing at 10:00 am to go over some design concepts. He really helped me finalize some things on my brochure, now I’m just waiting for him to send me pictures so there are no copyright issues and it will be complete! Yay! He also helped me out with my logo and it looks great. I just have to get them approved now.

Total Hours 3rd Week: 7 Hours (So far)

Total number of Internship hours: 22 Hours down, 108 to go!
